Improv and Spring Speech Contest!

If you missed this week’s meeting, you missed a heck of a Table Topics put on by Brad! He drew from an improvisational comedy class he once took and everyone had a great time watching members (and even our brave guest Dora!) participate in teams of two.  Don’t you wish you’d been there?

It’s contest season again, and we’ve already got three champion speakers lined up for February 28th: Mario, Miguel and Robert will all compete in the International Speech Contest category, and Miguel will reel us in hook, line and sinker with his Tall Tales entry.

Want to give them a run for their money?  There’s no friendlier place to compete than Heights Toastmasters, so email Natalie right now!  Regardless of whether you have that competitive spirit, make sure you come cheer them on in our usual meeting location and time.  When they sweep the District 56 competition this May, you’ll be able to say you were there when it all began!

CL contest update

Whoops, a belated congratulations to Rebecca for winning the CL manual contest!  Rebecca was rewarded for her diligence with a gift card to Amazon.

Hopefully everyone is now in the habit of bringing their CL manual to every meeting — you’ll reach that award before you know it!

Division N Contest

Congratulations to Robert and Mario for strong representation of Area N-25 and the Heights Toastmasters in the Division N Humorous Speech/Table Topics Contest on October 29th!  Mario was the runner-up in Table Topics and Robert exceeded his allotted Humorous Speech time by a mere five seconds, but we’re sure he would have won otherwise!

Are those not winning smiles?

Thanks to Mario for the photos!

Email/website issues, new contest, & an announcement from Suzette

Email/website: you may have noticed that our fancy, one-stop email distribution list is not functioning, along with our website.  Not to worry, we are in the middle of some website renovations and this is only temporary.  Brad is working hard to get things up and running again.  This is not the ideal way to launch it, but since things are a little messed up, feel free to wander over to 9148.toastmastersclubs.org to see where our normal domain will soon be pointing.

New contest: As Natalie announced on Tuesday the 18th, we are holding a special contest from November 1 until the end of the calendar year.  It’s completely painless to enter and you can enter once per meeting!

To enter, bring your CL (or advanced leadership) manual to every meeting and let Jennifer know that you have it.  That’s it.  Every time you do that, you will be entered into a raffle for an Amazon gift card.  We’ll start the new year by randomly drawing the winner from all entries.  Oh, and as long as you have your manual with you, you may as well see what you can get credit for, right?

Announcement: For those of you who missed Suzette’s Area 25 mixer tonight (that would be…everyone), she wants you to know that there is a pub crawl in Montrose on October 29 to benefit the Houston Area Women’s Center.  No tickets needed, just enjoy the specials at Brasil, Poison GIrl, Boondocks, Anvil, Etro Lounge, Catrbirds, Royal Oak, Slick Willie’s, The Hay Merchant and El Real Tex-Mex.

Heights Toastmasters Club dominates the Area N-25 fall contest!

Congratulations to Robert and Mario, pictured here with President Natalie:

Robert won the Humorous Speech Contest with his character-driven speech ‘A Trip Around Houston,’ and Mario won the Table Topics Contest with his answer about how he would use his unlikely success in Toastmasters as an example for a new Toastmaster seeking advice.  Make sure you go see them compete for the division titles on October 29!

Lots of Heights Toastmasters and friends came out to cheer Robert and Mario to victory and to help with the contest.  Hope to see even more next time!

Congratulations again, gentlemen!  Always nice to bring home some hardware.
